When I squandered several hundreds on Japanese books, magazines, videos and tapes to engross myself in Japanese learning, it was thought the height of eccentricity on my part. An English major like I should have had tremendous passion for English study instead of Japanese. But, somehow, I have shown much greater enthusiasm for Japanese.
Although after two years learning, the original target of understanding Japanese cartoons and TV series haven’t been fulfilled, I never regret choosing it as my second foreign language.
Stricken by one of my Japanese students who has only learned Chinese for three months but can speak mandarin thaaat fluently, from this April, I’ve set up my mind to learn Japanese well, esp. the listening comprehension. Unluckily, my desire to practise Japanese was usually overwhelmed by the same strong desire to watch TV or chatting on line, yet the latter is far easier to achieve.
Recently I dig out the old Japanese magazines buried in the deep side of my drawer and started to read them again. Still, there seem to be only two parts that can attract me to continue reading, “料理の作り方”と”美女を大捜索”. No wonder it is said food and sex are the staple of everyday life.
